Okay, I know this story isn’t about women in sci-fi directly, but in a way, it is. I’ve been a World of Warcraft player for years, so I wanted to mention this. Today we learned that the late Robin Williams is going to be memorialized in the game. Williams was a huge gamer, even naming his daughter Zelda in honor of The Legend of Zelda. They even did a commercial for it together.
The game has memorialized fans of the game before, and since Williams was certainly one of those, this seems like a lovely tribute, especially since it started from a fan petition on Change.org, according to AP.
The game’s lead designer, Ion Hazzikosta made the announcement a fan event on Thursday for the Warlords of Draenor expansion that is coming out this November. Of what shape this character will take, he said, “We haven’t decided, but it will most likely be a character inspired by him or some of his favorite roles of the past.”
The “World of Warcraft” account on Tuesday tweeted: “@robinwilliams Thank you. You gave us so much joy in our lives, and we hope you enjoyed your time in our world. We’ll see you in-game.” Over 10,000 fans signed the petition. Rest in peace, Robin. I’ll see you in Azaroth someday soon.
