Welcome to the Legion!

Did you ever have that thing where you can’t quite tell how you feel about something? Today DCWomenKickingAss, which is a site I love, posted a trailer for the upcoming Justice League: Battle for Metropolis ride at Six Flags Texas and Missouri. What’s awesome about it is that, in the midst of male Justice League members Superman, Batman and Green Lantern, we have female members Wonder Woman and Supergirl.

I love that! Especially with all the debate about why Wonder Woman still doesn’t have her own film. I’m thrilled to see them. However — and I’m saying this knowing that I’m sensitive to this stuff and may be over-reacting — the two female members of the team are shown tied up or captured. To be fair, so is Green Lantern and The Flash. Look. Story is story. Creative decision are personal. So is my reaction. I have no idea what the entire ride is about and it looks like fun from what I can see. So, why does it bother me so much that it isn’t Wonder Woman and Batman saving Superman, Supergirl and Green Lantern? Because it does. Because of the history of women in comics. Because of everything that is happening around Anita Sarkeesian. I hate being over-sensitive, but I think maybe history as well as recent events mean that it’s justified.

I’d love to start a discussion here. What do you guys think? Does it bother you? Would you never have noticed it if I hadn’t pointed it out? Is it a big deal or nothing to worry about? Let me know your thoughts in the comments after you watch the video below. By the way, I still want to go on the ride.

Here is the description: “As you explore the interactive Hall of Justice, you’ll be given special 3D glasses and a working stun gun to help you battle Lex Luthor and The Joker. They’ve hacked into BATMAN’s computer and kidnapped the world’s favorite superheroes, SUPERMAN, BATMAN, WONDER WOMAN, and GREEN LANTERN. Now you must bust into Lex Corp. to rescue them! Board motion-based vehicles for a wild journey through the Metropolis streets, where you’ll meet up with life-sized animatronics.”

  • I just wanted to point out that Super Girl isn’t tied up. Wonder Woman is but it’s with her own lasso which sorta just accounts for her lasso as in it’s being used against her in the battle. I’m not interested in commenting in the over sensitive nature of the write up, just wanted to point those things out. Also, the flash is captured as well so there’s equality in regards to the detained. One last thing. Supergirl isn’t a traditional Justice League character anyway so her addition to this animation was likely to add a bit more in terms of female presence. With that said it sorta seems like a dammed if you do dammed if you don’t situation to me.

  • If it was only the female characters that were tied up then I think I’d of been perturbed. I actually didn’t notice until it was pointed out.

  • hmm..it didn’t strike me as anything really. from the pictures, i figured the ride was a mission to save them. trailer confirmed it.
