You know how people were saying that the superhero genre is played out a few years back? Yeah, totally not true. Last night, Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment, Geoff Johns tweeted a link to a Wall Street Journal article that says a Teen Titans show is in the works and that it’s in talks with the cable network TNT.
The group, if you’re not familiar, first appeared in 1964 all-teen sidekicks version of the adult Justice League and the currently running animated series Teen Titans Go on Comedy Central. WSJ says that the television series “would more closely resemble a popular 1980s comic called New Titans. It featured a 20-something version of Robin who changed his moniker to Nightwing, as well as the new heroes Starfire, Raven and Cyborg.” It would be a more dramatic version of the group. The show will be written by Akiva Goldsman and Marc Haimes.
So, is the genre played out? I think not.
