I’m not going to go over all the crap that has happened in the world of geek women over the past few weeks again. I’m not sure I can bare trying to figure out why companies and studios don’t seem to get what’s happening here. I spent the weekend at Nashville Comic Con meeting amazing people who were also trying to wrap their head around it, a mom who brought over her young son who didn’t want the Guardians of the Galaxy shirt he saw because it didn’t have the whole team on it (read: Gamora) and girls who were dressed as Batman. Not Batgirl. Batman. So when I saw this last night on Jezebel while on the way home from the airport, it was like a smack in the face.
Walmart is selling a new licensed DC tee shirt line from DC and this little gem popped up. “Training to be Batman’s Wife.” Oh yes, a goal for us all. I’d also like to point out that this shirt is in the juniors department. For the record, the listing for the shirt says “girlfriend.” It reminds me of a few years ago when there was a man’s shirt that said, “I Want to Be a Hero,” while the girl’s shirt said, “I Need a Hero.”
Seriously, enough. Just … enough.
