13-year-old Alyssa Carson from Baton Rouge, Louisiana is training to be the first woman on Mars. NASA thinks she might be able to do it! She’s studying science and a number of languages, and she’s the first person to attend all three of NASA’s world space camps. She even has a call sign; ‘Blueberry.’
She told the BBC, “I want to go to Mars because it’s a place that no one has been… I want to take that first step.” She even has her own blog where she talks about the experience: NASA Blueberry and she talks about it on her Twitter feed @NASABlueberry1.
NASA spokesman Paul Carson told the BBC that Alyssa is “taking all the right steps to eventually become an astronaut.” Her father said they have the next 20 years planned out. But, what if she can’t come back? That’s a long journey. Her father says, “If that’s the only option she has, she still wants to go.”
High five, Blueberry!
To infinity and beyond!
