Kai Finding his sisters Magic

Legion contributor Dash Williams is recapping and reviewing The Vampire Diaries for us this season. Follow them on Twitter @DashKnowsAll!

This weeks episode ‘Fade Into You’ begins with a flashback to the events of last weeks big reveal; awesome Dr. Jo being the surviving sibling from Kai’s killing spree. Good to see that knife sticking out of her stomach. The horrifying thought of watching Kai kill the rest of his family is quickly transitioned into Groundhogs day with Bonnie. Phew! However, they’ve made a trek across the country and are now hanging out in Portland. Apparently Kai can fly a plane!

So in Portland, Not-so-Mystic-Falls, and Whitmore college it seems to be THANKSGIVING!!! Kai’s cooking dinner for Bonnie, Caroline is flawlessly planning a dinner party, Elena is practicing her “I’m a Vampire” speech for McAnnoying, Stefan was not invited to Friends-giving, but Damon, Stefan, and Alaric are having a boys weekend (in Portland).

Soon Alaric is on the phone letting Elena know that Bonnie is still alive and that the boys weekend is a mission to try and get her back. Of course Elena is mad that Damon didn’t tell her that her best friend was still alive. However, the winning quote of the episode goes to Damon (since Enzo never makes an appearance this episode). “Why wouldn’t I consult you in a decision  that might permanently change your life. Hmm, I wonder” Irony is always the best! Elena’s anger is all but forgotten when Caroline overhears the conversation and elated girl rejoicing commences.

Thankfully the boys search for the Gemini coven (and answers about Kai and Bonnie) results in Alaric and Damon giving Stefan dating advice, and relentlessly mocking him over his ‘Caroline’s-in-love’ oversight. Quick jump back to Kai and Bonnie however, reveals that the boys are in the same location as the un-magical duo. The boys see an empty field, but U-MD see Kai’s old house. Looks like some Gemini magic is hiding its dark secret. Soon though, Stefan, eager to be finished with the Dalaric intervention finds the shield hiding Kai’s house (He threw Ms. Cuddles at the field….how dare he harm the teddy bear!!!).

Back over at Friends-giving Jo is still stealing our hearts by saying hello to the wine bottles, and basically ignoring Liam (McAnnoying). Liv is around and being sarcastic about her brother (literally every conversation she’s had this entire season). Kai is making Bonnie dinner in his still blood spattered house……lets just leave that here (*shivers*). Thankfully (pun intended 😉 ) Bonnie tries to make peace with crazy pants and split the world in half. Lets hope she’s saved or he can actually just SPLIT the WORLD with her.

WAIT…..did this Friends-giving JUST reveal that Liv and Luke ARE THE SIBLINGS THAT DR JO SAVED FROM HER CRAZY BROTHER KAI!??!?!?!?!!?!?!?!

Umm, well more siblings survived. (Seriously I was really wondering why the twins were sticking around another season, and thankfully 😉 for more than a love interest for Tyler)
HAH! Liv made fun of Jo at the beginning of dinner….ohh those siblings!

Over at the boys ‘researchcation’ they’re finding out everything the viewers are, and suddenly meet Kai’s father Joshua. Officially making this a really screwed up family reunion/thanksgivings episode. Joshua is not very hospitable and soon is attacking Damon, without letting Alaric and Stefan know (they were booted to outside the concealment barrier).

Friends-giving quickly delves into sharing of the Gemini family history…..and everyone forgets that Liam is still in the room. CLASSIC! Yet the sordid history of the coven unearths the reason why Kai is such an angry, sibling killing, maniac. Apparently in Gemini coven, twins are leaders, but without his own magic the family kept having children (I really wondered why he had so many siblings) until another twin set was born (Luke and Liv). He saw the sarcastic two-some as usurpers and that set off the murdering spree.

Gemini coven is even more messed up than that though. Liv and Luke being now considered the future ruling twins. Sadly, only one twin can rule and will soon absorb the others powers and let the them die. Punches just keep on rolling with these witches. (end history lesson)

*cue awkward Tyler/Liv conversation*….sigh.

Now that everything has come full circle, and everyone’s objectives have merged again, the phone calling has commenced. Alaric lets Jo in on where they are, and that he met her dad. Stefan is more concerned with not being invited to Friends-giving than figuring out where his brother disappeared (really who is the better brother at this point).

Damon has a chat with Daddy Crazy about Kai and Daddy believes everyone is trying to release Kai from his prison. So he makes a rash decision and tries to kill Jo. Apparently Dr. Jo has the ascendant (in this timeline) with her, and if Daddy kills her, and if Kai is released, nothing bad can happen. That’s a lot of ifs. Yet Coven before family….that’s explains a lot.

In the throws of Dad initiated death throes, Elena (with her blood) saves Dr. Jo. Coincidentally Liam is in the room however, and Elena has to remove his memories (YAY). A small conversation earlier with Stefan helped Elena make her decision about McAnnoying though, and us viewers come to the conclusion that she doesn’t trust him nor does she love him. Her memory wipe includes any trace of them dating (yay).

Going back to the history lesson it turns out that Jo tricked Kai into not killing more of their siblings by agreeing to do the leadership merge. What Kai didn’t know is that would instead be the spell to lock him in his 1994 prison. All of this was facilitated by Jo hiding her magic the same way that Bonnie did; in an inanimate object. Kai figures it all out though, and tracks down the source of his sisters magic (in the prison). Guess someone is going to be released soon.

*cue Tyler’s “I’m-not-going-to-let-you-die speech to Liv*

*cue the expected Caroline/Stefan discussion* Caroline gives Stefan the leftovers to a dinner he wasn’t invited to, and yet he apologizes (D’aww). Caroline still walks away.

Damon and Elena during the regrouping of the our favorite characters, have another discussion about their lives. Damon shares his stories of his time with Bonnie, and Elena tells him the truth; she’s going to fight for the glimmer that he means something to her (*fangirl dance*).

Bonnie in the prison dimension has been left alone though, as Kai steals his sisters hidden magic and escapes. He Lied. Oops.
