Director Paul Feig and company are taking a couple casting cues from the original Ghostbuster cast in order to bulk up the main cast for the upcoming reboot. By cues, we mean that they’re dipping into the SNL bin to find the right people to make up their leads. One of the highlights about this casting is the fact that all the murmurs were right; they found a pretty cool all-female cast.
The Hollywood Reporter states that Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon have been cast to headline the upcoming paranormal comedy. This isn’t the first time that Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig have worked with Paul Feig – both appearing in Bridesmaids – but it’ll be a first for Jones and McKinnon.
The other big question that pops up in any Ghostbuster fan’s mind is who will be playing which roles. Since this is a reboot, fans are immediately casting each lady into a possible typecast role. Hopefully that won’t be the case. Call me blindly optimistic, but I still have my fingers crossed that Paul Feig decided to be clever and separate the characters just a little bit from their original male versions.
Do you like the casting for the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot? Why or why not?
