Welcome to the Legion!

This weekend, I got a chance to attend the press conference for Avengers: Age of Ultron at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. The guests included director Joss Whedon, Marvel Studio President Kevin Feige, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, James Spader, Paul Bettany and Cobie Smulders. Though we didn’t get an answer to my burning question (because the conference was so short) about where the lady in the cave from the trailer was in the film, we got some fun tidbits from the cast.

Whedon explained why he called the remote ship that houses the Hulkbuster armor “Veronica.” “Well, I used to be in love with a girl named Betty and that is the total opposite of that,” he said. He also told us that he’d requestioned that Hulk and Hawkeye’s roles in Phase 2 be kept small because he had “very big plans for those two characters [in Avengers: Age of Ultron].” He also revealed that he asked James Gunn to use less of Thanos in [easyazon_link identifier=”B00N1JQ2UO” locale=”US” tag=”legoflei07-20″]Guardians of the Galaxy[/easyazon_link] because he was needed here.

Robert Downey Jr. didn’t give us that much, but made the audience laugh by saying, “Let me just say that the next time I’m not asked the first question, I’m going to F***ing lose it!” In fact, it was hard to get the cast to say too much, as the film is full of surprises.  We’ll have our review up on opening day! Stay tuned!

Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters May 1.
