Welcome to the Legion!

The episode opens with Cersei’s flashback – she and a friend walked alone in the dark woods to find a witch (Maggy, the Frog). When they find her, the girls ask her to tell them their fortune. The witch demands Cersei’s blood in order to predict her fortune and when she gets it she allows young Cersei to ask 3 questions. Cersei asks whether she will marry a prince, whether she will become a queen, and whether she will have children. Maggy tells Cersei that she will marry a king. She also tells her that the king will have 20 children, while Cersei will have 3, she tells her that she will be replaced by someone younger than she.

In the present day at King’s Landing Cersei attends her father’s memorial. She sees Margaery flirting with Tommen and seemingly assumes that the old witch meant that Margaery will serve as Cersei’s replacement. When she is alone with Jaime, Cersei accuses him of indirectly killing their father by allowing Tyrion to escape.

Cut to Pentos: Varys lets Tyrion out of a crate. Tyrion is seemingly depressed, he does not believe that he should be called a “Lord” any longer since he killed his father and Shae. He says that his “future is shit, just like [his] past.” He then vomits.

Varys later tells Tyrion that he rescued him on Jaime’s orders and that he also did it for the Seven Kingdoms. He tells Tyrion that he does not need to continue with self-pity and that he has talent and compassion. He lets Tyrion know that he supports Daenerys and asks Tyrion to come with him to Meereen to meet her.

In the meantime in Meereen the Unsullied (warrior eunuchs) pull down the harpy statue from the pyramid. One of the Unsullied enters a brothel and requests to get his usual services. The woman at the brother spoons him and hums him a lullaby before a man in a Son of Harpy mask slits his throat, seemingly having planned this along with the woman. When Daenerys learns of this, she orders that the slain Unsullied is buried and that the Sons of Harpy are found and dealt with.

Cut to the Wall: Jon Snow is training new recruits while Sam is seen flirting with Gilly. Melisandre then requests that Jon come with her to meet with Stannis. On their way she demands to know if Jon is a virgin, to which Jon honestly replies, “No.” When Jon meets Stannis, he is asked to convince the Wildlings to join Stannis’ army in exchange for freedom. Jon agrees to attempt to persuade them.

Littlefinger and Sansa watch Lord Robert train at sword fighting as Sansa is seemingly keeping her distance from Petyr. They are later seen traveling in a carriage away from the Vale, far enough to where Cersei can’t find Sansa. Ironically, their carriage rides past Brienne and Pod, who are unaware of how close they are to finding Sansa Stark.

Kevan informs Cersei about the rise of the Sparrows (religious movement) and when she speaks to Lancel about it, he states that will pray for their father’s soul, suggesting that she pay more attention to religion.

In the meantime, Loras is seen in bed with his lover, Oliver, the two discussing their desire to run away together. Their lovemaking is interrupted by Margaery, who insists that Loras is keeping the king waiting. She reminds Loras to be more discreet but he does not seem to agree and states that since Tywin is dead, he is no longer obligated to marry Cersei. Margaery seems to have her own plans to get rid of Cersei.

Back in Meereen, Hizdahr suggests to Daenerys that she reopen the fighting pits but she adamantly refuses. Later, in her bedroom Daario tries to convince her to reopen the fighting pits as well, stating that they were what helped him learn how to fight and earn his freedom.

As if controlling her people wasn’t hard enough, Dany also seems to have a hard time controlling her dragons. When she goes to visit them, the two attack her, breathing fire at her.

When Jon goes to visit Mance, he tries to reason with him to kneel to Stannis in order to save himself and his people. When Mance refuses, stating that he wants to die with dignity, Jon tells him that he’s making a mistake. Mance replies that the freedom to make mistakes is all he ever wanted.

At nighttime the guards bring out Mance. Stannis gives Mance one more chance to kneel to him but Mance refuses. Melisandre warns the rest of the Wildlings to choose light over darkness and encourages them to join Stannis and recognize him as their king. She then lights the fire.

Mance attempts not to scream but when the fire becomes too hot, he is heard uttering some sounds. Jon, in an act of compassion, shoots Mance with an arrow, putting him out of his misery.
