Welcome to the Legion!

Nick is still unable to get in touch with Juliette, who is still staying with Sean. When Sean returns from being attacked by Kenneth (the ruthless prince from Vienna, Viktor’s brother), Juliette threatens to kill Adalind (of which Sean approves) and the two passionately kiss. Wait, WHAT????

Grimm

The ‘Wesen of the week’ is Varme Tyv, a cold-blooded Wesen that need to feed on warm blood in order to keep themselves warm. In the winter many of them get together and hibernate naked in order to keep each other warm in what’s called a ‘Hibernaculum’. If they find themselves outside of the Hibernaculum in the winter and if they start getting cold, the Varme Tyv must feed on someone’s blood or they freeze to death. If the Varme Tyv feed on a human, their victims freeze to death.

Grimm

Sadly, the Varme Tyv seen in this episode end up attacking killing several people, only one of their potential victims, a nurse, survived. Three Varme Tyv that are the main focus of this episode all died from freezing to death. It wasn’t clear why that happened given that two of them were in fact able to feed.

Grimm

No solution for the “Varme Tyv” was identified. Other members of the Varme Tyv herd were found in the Hibernaculum. When the herd chased the detectives and nearly froze to death, Nick, Hank, and Wu actually helped them stay warm by arranging them close together in the Hibernaculum again.

In the meanwhile, Juliette tries to kill Adalind by throwing a statue at her. Adalind’s bodyguard (arranged by Kenneth) pushes her out of the way just in time. When Juliette comes to the spice shop, angry about her transformation, she is surprised to find Nick and Hank there. She is angry at the entire Grimm team and blames all of them for her predicament. She woges, snaps at all of them, and storms out.

Psychological evaluation

Monroe appears to be experiencing some posttraumatic symptoms in the episode. He is seen having flashbacks on the time he was nearly killed by the Wesenrein. He is also easily startled, wogeing quickly when Rosalee enters the room. He seems to have a hard time talking about what happened to him even with Rosalee. He meets most of the criteria for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), except 1 – time. In order to be diagnosed with PTSD an individual must have experienced, witnessed, or learned about a trauma and react by having flashbacks, nightmares, memories of the event, as well as hypervigilance, change of behavior, and avoidance of talking about what happened. These symptoms have to last for at least 1 month. Monroe meets most of these symptoms but since they have not yet lasted for 1 month, he would not be diagnosed with PTSD at this point. A disorder that can be diagnosed if someone has these symptoms for less than 1 month is called Acute Stress Disorder. If Monroe’s symptoms persist for more than 1 month, we would be able to diagnose him with PTSD. Monroe is fortunate to have an amazing and supportive partner, Rosalee, who encourages him to talk about what happened to him and reassures and supports him. This might be the very thing that could prevent him from developing PTSD.
