Relativity Studios is currently in negotiations with Andrea Riseborough (Oblivion, Birdman) to play the villain in The Crow remake. And guess who they want her to play? Top “mutha freakin'” Dollar!

The Crow is be a revamp of the 1994 flick, and will be directed by The Hallow‘s Corin HardyBoardwalk Empire‘s Jack Huston is already set to play Eric Draven, originally portrayed by the late Brandon LeeClaire Wilson wrote the adaptation based, which will be based more on James O’Barr’s graphic novel than the movie.

Top Dollar is the baddest of the bad in the novel and the original movie. A real thunder-cuss, you know? Top Dollar is also a male character. Originally portrayed by Michael Wincott, Dollar is an evil syndicate leader whose men murdered Draven and his girlfriend. Draven comes back as The Crow and takes his revenge on the whole syndicate.

The fact that they’re a woman, especially Riseborough, to portray this baddie has me giddy all over. I love it when Hollywood takes characters originally written as a dude and turns them into a woman. It tells me that there are people who sees a character as a person, not as a specific gender or sex. That potentially puts men and women on equal standing when competing for a role. The most prime example for a character changing from male to female is Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley from the Alien series. There’s also Angelina Jolie in Salt, Viola Davis as Major Anderson in Ender’s Game, Katee Sackhoff as Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica, the list goes on.
