It’s official! Doctor Who alum, David Tennant, joins The Walking Dead’s Stephen Yeun and Supernatural’s Felicia Day in the animated adaptation of the super strange yet totally awesome comic book series, [easyazon_link identifier=”1607061597″ locale=”US” tag=”legoflei07-20″]Chew[/easyazon_link]. Tennant was in the sound booth this week voicing the show’s main antagonist, Mason Savoy.

Chew is set in a world where the infamous bird flu took out a good chunk of the human population, worse than the Black Plague. As a result, all bird meat is illegal and the FDA has just as much power as the FBI.

david tennant - chewOur protagonist Tony Chu is played by Stephen Yeun. He’s a “cibopath,” a person who gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. If it’s a fruit, he can see exactly which farm it came from, which pesticides they used, and who picked it. With meat, Chu sees the gruesome process in which that particular animal had to go through to become someone’s next meal. The only food that doesn’t affect him is beets, so he eats beets. Chu hates beets. This gift becomes disturbingly useful at crime scenes since he can see who killed a victim he and his partner are investigating.

Felicia Day plays Chu’s girlfriend, Amelia Mintz, a food critic and “saboscrivner” who has the ability to write about food so precisely the reader actually feels like they are tasting it, for better or for worse…

Tennant voices Mason Savoy, an agent from the FDA sent to recruit our protagonist. Like Chu, Savoy is also a cibopath; however, Savoy has a secret agenda up his sleeve.

The role of Mason Savoy was originally meant for Robin Williams — a comic book reader and fan of the series — but his unfortunate death put the show in Stall Mode until they could find a suitable replacement.
