Welcome to the Legion!

Michael Chiklis, who won the 2002 Emmy for Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his work on The Shield, has officially joined the cast of the Fox DC Comics adaptation, Gotham, as a series regular.

This is exciting news for Gotham and Chiklis fans across the board.

According to TV Line, Chiklis will be playing Captain Nathaniel Barnes who will join the Gotham City Police Department and rid it of its “dead wood.”

We have also learned that the character is ready to shake things up and is not afraid to make enemies “on either side of the law.” The character will also be a mentor and ally to Gordon (played by Ben McKenzie)… for now.

Chiklis will be joining Gotham as it heads into its second season. At Comic-Con, showrunner, Bruno Heller, said that this season will be about exploring the “rise of the villians.” McKenzie also shared that more “good guys” will be joining the cast and they will all need to band together to fight crime, which will include Cameron Monaghan’s Joker.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Heller told them:
“We’re going to find out how the hell Jerome, the proto-Joker we met [in season one], connects with the Joker as people know him. That’s the big focus of the beginning of the second season. We’re going to tell the story of how the Joker came to be.”
Awesome.
Gotham returns Sept. 21 on Fox.
