Yep, that’s right. According to Comicbook.com, Archie Comics, Funny or Die, and writer/director Adam McKay are teaming up for an Archie Broadway musical.

McKay (Anchorman and Talladega Nights) will also be reportedly writing a companion book for the Broadway musical which will be co-presented by Funny or Die.

Apparently, McKay feels that Archie is ready to stake a claim in present day American pop culture.

“Archie represents a bygone era of America. And like all bygone eras, there are elements we miss and elements that should be bygone,” McKay said in a statement. “This will be a musical that deals with both those realities in a bright, colorful and slightly demented way.”

Archie Comics CEO and publisher, Jon Goldwater also released a statement saying that he is excited for the musical and believes that it will be a fantastic success, especially with McKay on board:

“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Adam McKay and Funny or Die to finally bring Archie to the stage. We’ve always thought that Archie was destined to be a big Broadway star – and now that moment has come!” Jon Goldwater said in a statement. “I’ve long admired Adam’s work and the pairing of Archie’s world with his brilliant humor and sensibility is the perfect fit. We look forward to developing this project together with this incredible team.”

We don’t have a release date yet so stay tuned! Who would you guys cast in the Archie Broadway musical?! Who would be your ideal Archie, Veronica, and Betty?! Let me know in the comments!

  • I love this!! Archie is my favorite. They made a few editions of the modern graphic novels. They’re really good, and I’m sure they bode well for a musical production. I would cast Kristin Bell as Betty!

    • Erica!!! Hi! I’m excited too. And I think that Kristin Bell would be a brilliant Betty!

  • i think Ethan Slater would be great as Archie, Taylor Louderman for Veronica, Cortney Wolfson for Betty and Ben Fankhouser for Jughead.
