Shuki Levy and Haim Saban’s Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers is going to receive the Hollywood reboot treatment via Lionsgate and Saban Entertainment. Although little was known about the film until recently, Collider reported an exclusive list of the five rangers’ names, each followed by a description. Fans of the original series will be pleased to see Jason, Kimberly, Trini, Billy and Zack return. This team of rangers lasted for just over 80 episodes when the actors playing Jason, Trini and Zack left the show due to contract disputes.
The descriptions for the characters are intriguing: Jason looks to redeem an unfulfilled football career, Kimberly returns to school after a mysterious 6-month absence, Trini is a loner, Billy struggles with OCD, and Zack lives in a broken home. How all this will translate to the silver screen we can’t be sure, but this is definitely a more serious take on the franchise. My only question is, what about everyone’s favorite ranger Tommy?
Power Rangers will be directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) and is set to hit theaters January 13, 2017.
