Welcome to the Legion!

Walking_Dead_Sam

Nothing’s worse than being stuck with something horrible inside a flying metal tube, thousands of feet above the ground. It could be an army of fussy babies, a mob out to kill a Samuel L. Jackson with a bunch of snakes, or…zombies. Guess which element The Walking Dead will be incorporating. Winner gets a cookie.

In the same vein as (and timeline) as Fear the Walking Dead, AMC will air a special 30-minute stand-alone story following a group of passengers facing a Walker attack on an plane while in flight. One character who survives the terrifying encounter will later join the cast of Fear the Walking Dead in Season 2.

AMC previously had stand-alone stories for The Walking Dead as online-only web series, but those were mainly used to tell the origins of certain Walkers that happened to have more screen time in the main series (i.e. bicycle girl and tank walker from Season 1). With “Zombies on a Plane” (not the real title), the story will debut online and then unfold in chapters that will air during The Walking Dead’s on-air telecasts. In other words: The Walking Dead cuts to commercial break, and then we’ll get a new chapter in the stand-alone story. So…no, we won’t get to see “Zombies on a Plane” as one whole, half-hour episode.

Beyond the general premise of the special, details are pretty scarce. We can assume that the plane is headed toward LAX in Los Angeles, which is where Fear the Walking Dead is set. What we definitely do not know yet is who will the new survivor be? Where is the plane coming from (possible link to Atlanta)? Across how many episodes of The Walking Dead will it air? Will Chris Hardwick have a mini Talking Dead segment after each chapter?
