According to Deadline Hollywood, Warner Bros. Pictures’ Warner Animation Group (WAG), is currently working on a new, animated, Scooby-Doo film.
The film will be based on the beloved Hanna Barbera cartoon and Warner Bros. is working with producers Charles Roven and Richard Suckle (who worked together on Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed) to make it happen. Allison Abbate (The Iron Giant, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Corpse Bride, Frankenweenie) will also be joining as a producer. Dan Povenmire (Phineas and Ferb, Family Guy) will be joining the crew as executive producer.
Furthermore, Tony Cervone (Space Jam, Cartoon Newtwork’s The Looney Tunes Show and Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated) will be directing. And, although we don’t know anything about the plot yet, we do know that Matt Lieberman (Dr. Dolittle, Tail to the Chief) has written the screenplay.
We haven’t seen a Scooby-Doo film since the live-action films Scooby-Doo in 2002 and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed in 2004. And they were both hits! The two films grossed $457.1M worldwide. Wowza.
As of right now, the studio is planning for a September 2018 release.
