A24 Films has acquired the film rights to adapt Neil Gaiman‘s How to Talk to Girls at Parties with John Cameron Mitchell to direct and Elle Fanning to star. The original short story, penned by Gaiman won both the Hugo Award and Locus Award for Best Short Story in 2007. Set in 1970s London, How to Talk to Girls at Parties tells the tale of Enn, a shy punk teen and his friends Vic and John as they sneak into a party and meet a group of hypnotic exchange students. After falling for one of the girls, named Zan, Enn discovers that the students hail from someplace further than any nation on this planet.
“A24 is the best US indie film distributor for a film like ours,” Mitchell said. “They combine today’s market strategies with the daring taste that flourished in the ’90s and ’00s. We’re so fortunate to be partnered with them for a genre-busting and hopefully crowd-pleasing creative endeavor.”
