Well…. Has he? The answer is… uh… Maybe?
The Mirror is reporting that Damian Lewis is the “number one choice” and has been given the unofficial nod to take over the role of James Bond once Daniel Craig hangs up the cufflinks in 2020. Lewis is perhaps best known for his turn on Homeland, and certainly has the chops to pull off the world’s most famous secret agent.
While this “scoop” is unconfirmed at best, it has already caused ripples in the fan community. For quite awhile now, there have been cries for a change in the white, straight, ultra-macho James Bond canon, particularly in the last few years.
Many-including myself- are in camp Idris Elba (#elba007, #idrisbond), while others- also, incidentally, including myself- are rooting for the first female James Bond (Can you imagine how cool it would be if Judi Dench‘s M was once a 00 agent who rose through the ranks? That’s an origin story and James Bond film that I could get on board with!), but with this news, it seems like we are only getting further and further away from those dreams becoming reality.
