Welcome to the Legion!

morethancute

Halloween is a strange time of year. Not only is it the one time it’s okay for kids to take candy from strangers, but it’s also the time people (mostly adults) unleash their inner id upon the world (or at least the general social groups).

I’ve seen many costumes over the years and there can be plenty of variety… at least amongst the guys. Guys can be literally anything: I’ve seen ninjas, Gumbi, even a personified game of ping-pong. Yet there is often a general consensus on the costumes for the ladies: If you’re a woman it should be sexy, if you’re a little girl it should be cute.

That’s why Heroic Girls is launching the hashtag #MoreThanCute to inspire young women and their mothers to try something more. Sure, it’s okay to be cute as it’s okay to be sexy but that’s not the only thing of value, and it’s not the only thing young ladies need be. If you want to get involved you can simply share photos on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.

Personally, I’m hoping this catches on quickly. Not simply due to my progressive leanings, but my girlfriend and I have a duo costume this year, and I’m hoping I need not fend off narrow-minded questions of why sexy* Captain Hook is going out with gender-swapped Peter Pan.
