Netflix has released a new Marvel’s Jessica Jones photo which features “Purple Man” (a.k.a. Dr. Zebediah Killgrave) alongside a newly revised synopsis.
Here is the new synopsis:
Haunted by a traumatic past, Jessica Jones uses her gifts as a private eye to find her tormentor before he can harm anyone else in Hell’s Kitchen.
Here is Marvel’s original synopsis:
After a tragic ending to her short-lived superhero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.
Okay, a couple of things about the changes to the synopsis:
1.) The new synopsis says nothing about her “short lived superhero stint.” Instead, it says that she is “haunted by a traumatic past” which makes me think that the new goal here is to keep Jones’ past a mystery.
2.) The new synopsis straight up mentions her “tormentor” which lets us know that finding said tormentor will be the force that drives Jones through the show.
3.) The new synopsis says that she’s a private eye but says nothing about her being involved with solving cases having to do with “people with extraordinary abilities.” What’s that about?!
Needless to say, the new synopsis is much more dark, ominous, and, arguably, much more intriguing.
Now on to the new image (which is currently the background of the Jessica Jones Netflix landing page)!
As you can see from the images above, it’s is incredibly dark and ominous, which reflects my analysis of the equally ominous, new synopsis. The image of, who we can assume is, Jessica Jones moving toward Purple Man is creepy and unsettling to say the least. Meanwhile, Purple Man is very literally commanding the stage, as well as our attention. This image seems to possibly reflect, not only the character of Purple Man but, also, his relationship with Jones.
Jessica Jones stars Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, David Tennant as Zebediah Killgrave/Purple Man, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, and Rachael Taylor as Patsy “Hellcat” Walker. It has also been confirmed that Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as Claire Temple on the show.
