And here you thought Twilight was over and vampires could go back to having fangs again. Nope. Twilight author Stephanie Meyer is sucking you back in (sorrynotsorry) with a gender-swapped Twilight novel called Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined in honor of the 10th anniversary edition of the original novel. As any of you who listen to our Legion of Leia Podcast know, I’m generally a proponent of gender-swapping characters for fun and to make sure all your characters are well-written. I’m just not a fan of this property. Still, if you are, this should be interesting.
Meyer talked about the novel idea (seriously, I’m not sure what got into me this morning) on Good Morning America. “I wanted to do something fun for the 10th anniversary and the publisher wanted like a foreword and I thought, ‘Well, maybe something more interesting,'” she said. In this version, the story will come from the perspective of Beaufort, the male version of Bella, who falls in love with Edythe, the female version of Edward.
Meyer continued, “I wonder if it will change how people look at Bella a little bit, to see her as him. I do feel like it’s really very much the same thing so I guess my hope is that maybe the younger readers will be reintroduced because a lot of my readers, you know, they’re all 10 years older now and so there’s a whole new generation.”
EW has an exclusive clip of the audio book forLife and Death: Twilight Reimagined. Check it out on their site by clicking here. The 10th anniversary copy of Twilight is in stores today.
Oh no! I hope then DON’T make a film of this one…
