In an interview with the Washington Post, J.J. Abrams’ friend and colleague, actor Greg Grunberg, said that Abrams wishes he were directing Star Wars: Episode VIII.
Grunberg and Abrams have been friends since kindergarten — And Grunberg co-starred in Abram’s Felicity, Alias, and LOST. And in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he played pilot Snap Wexley.
According to Washington Post, Abrams has recently read the script for Episode VIII and this was his reaction, as reported by Grunberg:
“[J.J. Abrams] read it and said something he never, ever says,” Grunberg said. “He said: ‘It’s so good, I wish I were making it.’”
While this is, more or less, salt in the wound for fans who were bummed to learn that Abrams would not be directing Episode VIII, it’s also really great news! — It’s awesome to hear that Abrams loves the Episode VIII script!
And it definitely helps to know that Abrams is staying on as a Producer for Star Wars: Episode VIII!
Most of us are nervous that someone is going to screw up this third trilogy somehow! We are super fans and we love Star Wars and it’s nerve-wracking for us! So it’s really a huge relief to hear that Abrams feels to passionately about the Episode VIII story.
According to Washington Post, Abrams said that he shared early cuts of Episode VII with Rian Johnson, who is taking over the trilogy, in order to help Johnson craft the story for Episode VIII.
Very cool to hear that Abrams is still so involved! And it sounds as through everyone is working together in order to make this trilogy great!
