Earlier this year Sony and Marvel announced that Spider-Man would finally be able to play in the same sandbox as the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tom Holland was cast as the latest iteration of the web-slinger, and a release date for a stand-alone film was set for July 28, 2017. AND THEN. On a Captain America: Civil War set visit, Entertainment Weekly reporter Anthony Breznican saw something veeery interesting:
“Listen, if there was a cosplayer running around that set when you were there, I don’t know what to tell you,” Feige said.
Fair enough. But then, during the very same battle sequence, just hanging around off-camera, Robert Downey Jr. comes strolling by. He’s laughing and talking with his arm slung over the shoulder of a young man who, if Feige is right, is doing some pinpoint Tom Holland cosplay – and wearing a full Spider-Man suit, except for the mask.
Cosplayer? Likely story. So, as fans of the Civil War comics suspected, Spidey will indeed play a part in the clash between Iron Man and Captain America. This also makes sense since Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo were part of the Marvel powers-that-be who cast Holland as Spider-Man.
I believe I speak for all of us when I say this movie is going to be balls to the walls nuts. Captain America: Civil War comes out on May 6, 2016.
