On Sunday, February 21 at 8:00 PM, ABC will air The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60, a televised event focusing on the Disneyland Resort’s ongoing Diamond celebration. The special, with MC Derek Hough, will dive into the past, present and future of the park, and will feature performances by Elton John, Gosh Gad, and Witney Carson as well as a live performance of “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” by the L.A.Philharmonic conducted by Gustavo Dudamel (who, if any of you are watching Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle, is the real life person upon whom the character of Rodrigo is partially based).
It was announced today that the upcoming special will also feature a segment dedicated entirely to the highly anticipated Star Wars Land, slated to open at both Disneyland in Anahaeim and Disney World in Orlando some time in 2017 (hopefully). And Han Solo himself, Harrison Ford, will host that portion of the program.
No additional details have been released in terms of what we can expect to see in this exclusive preview. Little is known about the forthcoming addition to the parks, other than some concept art, leaked layouts, and approximate square footage. While there’s little evidence of it yet in Florida, where the land is going to be an addition to the formerly MGM now Hollywood Studios Park, Disneyland in Anaheim has already closed down its Big Thunder Ranch area to start work on the undoubtedly massive construction project.
Hopefully Harrison Ford will be presenting us with specific details in a more official capacity. Because, if the Millennium Falcon is going to be included in Star Wars Land, and all reports thus far would suggest it is, who better to explain how it will work in the park than its captain?
The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 airs on Sunday, February 21 at 8/7c on ABC.
