Welcome to the Legion!

90s Nicktoons

It’s a 90s kid’s dream come true.  Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures has hired Napoleon Dynamite Director Jared Hess to helm a NickToons movie uniting the worlds of beloved Nickelodeon originals like Doug, Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, and Ahhh! Real Monsters.  Though there are currently no details on how exactly these characters’ storylines will collide, word on the street is this film might be Paramount’s homage to Robert Zemeckis’ 1988 live action/cartoon crossover classic Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Hess, who’s previous works include Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre and Gentleman Broncos is also set to cowrite the film with his wife and frequent collaborator, Jarusha Hess.  Disruption Entertainment’s Mary Parent and Cale Boyter will serve as producers.  The movie itself is based on an idea from Disruption’s Director of Development, Ali Mendes, who grew up loving these characters and dreamed up a way to bring them all together.

Thus far Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, Doug, Aaahh! Real Monsters, and The Angry Beavers are the only series confirmed to be incorporated into the film.  But, as anyone in their late 20s/early 30s will know, there are lots of other NickToons titles that the upcoming movie could potentially dip its toes in.

So which NickToons characters are you most excited about seeing on the big screen?  What shows not yet announced would you also like to see in the film?  Personally, I’m casting my vote for Hey Arnold!  and The Wild Thornberrys.  And though they’re technically not animated (at least, not in the traditional drawings on a page sense of the word), I would love to see a cameo by the members of Kablam‘s Action League Now…
