Gal Gadot is just awesome.
I got to see her speak at 2015’s San Diego Comic Con— I loved what she had to say then and I’m loving what she said now!
In an interview with Glamour, Gadot had some very insightful and exciting things to say about her role as Wonder Woman, what being a feminist means to her, and how, like Wonder Woman, women should use their emotional intelligence as a strength.
Here is what she had to say about being a feminist:
“There are such misconceptions as to what a feminist is,” Gadot told Glamour. “Feminism is about equality. I want all people to have the same opportunities and to get the same salaries for the same jobs. I realize I’m doing what I want to do because of the women before me who laid the groundwork. Without them I wouldn’t be an educated working mother who is following her dreams; I wouldn’t be here.”
Love, love, love!
And here is what she had to say about her role as Wonder Woman:
“For [Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice] it was important for me that we show how independent she is,” Gadot said to Glamour. “She is not relying on a man, and she’s not there because of a love story. She’s not there to serve someone else.”
So wonderful to hear! I can’t wait to see this independent superheroine on the big screen. It’s going to be fantastic.
Gadot also said this about Wonder Woman’s “emotional intelligence:”
“And it’s all her heart—that’s her strength,” Gadot said to Glamour. “I think women are amazing for being able to show what they feel. I admire women who do. I think it’s a mistake when women cover their emotions to look tough. I say let’s own who we are and use it as a strength.”
Amen, sister!
I love this so much – I’m an incredibly emotional woman but I’m also a total badass. And I’m very proud of that!
Women are, often times, more emotional than men. And that fact should NOT have a negative connotation.
For me, embracing my emotional side helped me to better understand myself and, in turn, made me a much stronger, more self-aware woman.
Furthermore, it helps me in my personal and professional relationships and, as a writer, I believe it connects me deeply with my work.
Having the kind of “emotional intelligence” that Gadot describes in Wonder Woman, and understanding and owning that side of ourselves in a healthy way, can absolutely be a strength.
I love that Gadot is advocating for women to embrace that side of themselves and WORK IT!!!
