Welcome to the Legion!
If you’re a fan of Sleepy Hollow, then you know that this season has been an emotional roller coaster. We at the Legion of Leia received a special opportunity to interview the cast (pictured below) and writer, Raven Metzner about the show’s development.
Warning: some spoilers from Season 3 of Sleepy Hollow to follow.

Producer and writer of the series, Raven Metzner, stated that while he does not know whether Sleepy Hollow will go on to the next season, he will be disappointed if it doesn’t continue. He particularly discussed how much goes into planning each episode and the fact that the writers make sure to keep the dates and events as historically accurate as possible.

Metzger also talked about Abbie Mills, one of the leading characters in the series, stating that she has experienced a lot of difficulties – from being a Witness (along with Ichabod Crane), as well as being trapped in Purgatory and, more recently, stuck in the Catacombs. Metzner pointed out that all of these events have significantly impacted Abbie and that in this season she is attempting to cope with what has happened to her. He added that the audiences now have a job of trying to figure out exactly what occurred in the Catacombs.

Actors Zach Appelman (Joe Corbit) and Lyndie Greenwood (Jenny Mills) discussed their characters’ development and recent romance. Greenwood specifically pointed out that Jenny has experienced a lot of loss and abandonment in her life – her parents and then Abbie:

“Abbie told a lie and was accepted in society, Jenny told the truth and was not.”

Greenwood added that Jenny has a hard time trusting and getting close to other people. However, her sister’s love and support in the past few years helped her better cope with the numerous losses and traumatic experiences she had endured. However, since the girls’ father has recently made attempts to be a part of their lives, Jenny isn’t ready to forgive him just yet:

“[Jenny’s] way more jaded than Abbie and she’s got a chip on her shoulder and she’s not going to let her dad just walk into her life.”

Similarly, Jenny is also guarded to some degree, when it comes to her new beaux, Joe Corbit, the son of the late Sheriff August Corbin (remember him?). Appelman added that what his character loves most about Jenny is that “she’s tough as nails” and that like him, she also understands trauma. Joe, being a soldier, understands all too well about having a rough time. His love and trust in Jenny allows him to support her, without attempting to change her. While Joe wants to help Jenny bring down some of her walls, he doesn’t try to change who she is and how she acts. Greenwood also added that while Jenny does have her “walls up,” she does want to learn to trust others and have the kind of trust and love that she has with Joe and the kind of loving relationship she has with her sister.

The 3rd Season introduced additional characters, such as FBI Agent Sophie Foster (played by Jessica Camacho) and a known historical figure, the woman who is credited with putting together the American flag, Betsy Ross (portrayed by Nikki Reed). Both women represent ultimate strength and dedication to their missions and the extent to which their lives were affected by the Horsemen.

Camacho specifically talked about how the supernatural events affected her career and personal life. Specifically, she states that it was really important for Agent Foster to discover that the supernatural world exists as she has a very personal connection to it and was haunted by not knowing what to believe. As such, it extremely important for her to know that she’s not “crazy” and to reconnect with a lost part of herself. Now Agent Foster caught between two worlds – her professional commitment to the FBI and the supernatural world. She especially struggled with having to lie to Danny, her superior. However, she currently feels less isolated since Danny now knows the truth. Overall, Camacho stated that she is thrilled to join the cast is excited for their upcoming adventures.

Nikki Reed shared Camacho’s enthusiasm for being a part of Sleepy Hollow, and added that she is extremely grateful to her fans. Reed is involved in animal welfare and outreach and reported that she had been able to ask her fans for support of these causes on Twitter and was able to get thousands of people involved in animal support and protection.

We at the Legion hope that the show will go on to the next season and will continue to bewilder us with connecting history with supernatural events.
