So, after the self-serious disaster that was Batman vs. Superman it looks like Warner Brothers is doing some pretty extensive reshoots to lighten up Suicide Squad. Apparently the fun tone of the Suicide Squad trailer was due to the fact that the entirety of the film’s fun was cut into the trailer. The reshoots aren’t meant to turn the film into a Deadpool knock-off–they’re simply “beefing up fun character moments and interactions.” After the reaction to Batman vs. Superman it seems like the studio has finally caught wind of what I call “Nolan-fatigue”–exhaustion with the DCU’s attempt to recreate the bleakness of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. While those films were good in their own right, there’s a tipping point that Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman went over, imho, so I’m glad to hear that Suicide Squad will be embracing some good old fashioned fun.
Suicide Squad opens in theaters on August 5th.
