Welcome to the Legion!

cavil unrecognized

If a major movie star saunters through Times Square and no one recognizes him, did it even happen? It did if he documents it on Instagram! Superman himself, Henry Cavill, decided to take a walk through the biggest metropolis in the world, New York City, in broad daylight, to test the theory that Clark Kent’s glasses were a more than adequate disguise for a public that isn’t paying quite enough attention. Turns out, he didn’t even need the glasses. Not only that, he was even wearing a Superman t-shirt! Nerves of steel, that one! Cavill’s normally adoring public must have been out to lunch today, as he went completely unrecognized.

As Legion of Leia’s resident NYC-area correspondent, I can tell you that I avoid Times Square like the plague. It is insanely crowded with selfie-stick-bearing tourists stopping mid-sidewalk and advertisers shouting and trying to make you take their flyers. I only go there for two reasons: I’m hosting out of town guests for a bit of sightseeing, or I’m spending an evening at the theater (these two often coincide). I am not surprised that Superman went unnoticed, as there are many handsome actor-types in Manhattan, but to not even notice the scrumptious Henry Cavill in a Superman t-shirt? In the midst of giant billboards bearing his face? That is some impressive New-Yorker-obliviousness right there. Not to mention all the tourists who were distracted by the flash and color of Times Square to even spare the Man of Steel a second look! I’m willing to bet that even if he’d been in full costume, passers-by might have just discounted him as another pretty actor trying to score a few tourist dollars.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice comes out on March 25, in case you have been under a rock and missed the DC-marketing blitz!
