Damien Questions Margot

This week’s Damien begins with Damien in the psychiatric ward of the hospital, still recovering from his attempted suicide. He sits down to eat between two mentally disturbed patients who both think they are Jesus Christ… the irony is not lost on him.

We are then cut to Detective Shay, who is trying to make sense of what he saw when he saved his son from drowning. He checks under the pool cover, but doesn’t see anything. One of the Rottweilers is watching him from a nearby building. He hears a noise, and goes to investigate, but doesn’t see anything.

Back at the hospital, Damien is released from the mandatory 72-hour hold as long as he agrees to make psychiatric appointments that have been made for him. The doctor lets him know how amazed she is that he survived the lethal dose of morphine that he took. She wants him to know that she is on his side if he needs anything. Damien lets her know that he won’t attempt suicide again, especially since it wouldn’t work anyway. As he is walking out of the hospital, one of the patients pleads for Damien to kill himself.

Detective Shay and his life partner are talking about whether or not their son, Jacob, should return to school. Shay doesn’t want the son to go back to school yet, since he is concerned what might happen. His partner doesn’t understand why Shay is so obsessed, but Shay explains that his gut is telling him Damien is involved somehow, and he doesn’t want to ignore his gut. Jacob walks in and asks if the dog will return. Shay quickly realizes that he is most probably talking about a Rottweiler and his concerns grow.

Detective Shay Damien

Simone and Amani are entering Damien’s apartment. Simone wants to show Amani the damage that Ann Rutledge’s thugs caused. When they arrive, the loft is completely cleaned up. Amani thinks that Simone is delusional, but Simone insists that she knows what she saw. As they are arguing, Damien walks in. He’s confused as to why Amani and Simone are in his apartment. Simone tries to warn him, but he doesn’t want to listen to any of it. He feels as if they are both in league with Lyons and Rutledge and kicks them out.

We are then taken to a house where Lyons and others are having lunch. As they are praying over their meal (a prayer that is clearly directed towards either Damien or Satan himself), Damien walks in to confront Lyons over working with Ann Rutledge. Lyons tries to defend himself, but Damien knows better and doesn’t back down. As they are talking, a disabled, elderly woman begins to babble about how much she loves Damien and wants to serve him.

Detective Shay enters a floral shop to speak with Damien’s old college roommate, Charles Powell. He asks him about a time that Damien put him into the hospital. Shay had heard that Damien assaulted Powell, but Powell denies it. Charles seems to be keeping silent due to fear.

Charles Powell Damien

Simone returns to work, but can’t give up on trying to figure out what is going on with Damien. She looks at the video footage of the old lady in Damascus blessing Damien. She compares the video footage to the pictures of the old lady that she found in Damien’s apartment. At one point, she looks over, and the old lady in the video has changed her direction to be staring right at Simone… even though the video has been on pause. This startles her and she realizes that she should probably work from home, instead of working on this in her office.

At the police station, Shay is questioning yet another acquaintance of Damien’s. This time he is talking to the man who provides Damien with his visas, Cray Marquand. Cray explains that he tries to keep his distance from Damien, but that Shay should talk to a Charles Powell. Powell and Damien were roommates at one point, and Powell was completely infatuated with Damien. He also explains to Shay that Powell suffered third degree burns due to an initiation ceremony into a secret club that they were all a part of. He says that Damien just sat by and watched it happen as if Damien enjoyed watching their friend burn. He also tells Shay that weird things have always happened around Damien. Shay thanks him for all the new information.

Rutledge and Lyons discuss Lyon’s new predicament, as Damien now doesn’t trust him. As they are speaking, Damien is outside the house lurking around. Lyons tells Rutledge that he needs a dagger of Megiddo in order to protect himself. Rutledge reminds him that he will need all seven to perform the ritual, if that is what he is wanting. Lyons explains that he will take what he can get for the moment, as he is scared for his life. Rutledge refuses to give up the dagger that she has in her possession, but agrees to try to talk to Damien on Lyon’s behalf.

Meanwhile, Damien makes it Margot, the old lady that spoke out at Lyon’s house earlier. He asks her to elaborate on what she had said about the lies that the serpent tells. She explains that John Lyons is the serpent, which slithers before the beast, making the way for the beast to come forward. She also explains that the serpent does this so that he will be rewarded with one of the 10 crowns promised to those who help the beast. Damien asks Margot if there’s any way to stop what’s happening, but she replies with “The Dark Church is ready,” and points out the window. Damien goes to investigate where she was pointing, and finds a building that contains what looks like to be a place of sacrifice. He finds weapons, and blood everywhere. He takes one of the hatchets, and walks out.

Damien Questions Margot

We are then taken to a park where Simone sees an elderly lady who looks just like the old lady from Damien’s videos and photos. Simone approaches the woman, but the lady denies knowing what Simone is talking about and walks away. Sister Greta Fraueva, who tells Simone that they need to talk, then approaches Simone. Sister Greta explains that she comes from a group in the Vatican called Sisco Dei, who investigates “certain matters.” She also tells Simone that she believes all the things that Simone has been seeing. The blood on the statue, the bird in her bath, it has all happened for a reason.

Simone and Sister Greta Damien

Shay returns to the floral shop to speak with Powell again. Shay asks Powell if he is defending Damien because he is still in love with Damien. Charles explains that love didn’t begin to describe what he felt back then. He says he did everything within his power to get on Damien’s good side. He wrote his papers for him; stole things from other students, but none of it seemed to work. Powell gives details about what happened to him in college. He says that Damien forced him to try to join the private club that he was a member of. Damien, along with Cray Marquand, doused Powell’s hands in butane, and then Damien lit the match that set him on fire. Powell has been in and out of hospitals ever since. Shay vows to make Damien pay for what he did.

Shay Questions Powell Further Damien

At Lyon’s house, John goes to check on Margot, who has the bloody hatchet Damien took in her lap. Lyons knows that this means Damien was there, and found the Dark Church.

Sister Greta explains to Simone that what she has been seeing are not messages from Kelly. Simone shows Sister Greta the notebook of Kelly’ that has the “666” emblazoned on it. Sister Greta explains that they may be too late to stop the coming of the beast. Simone tells Sister Greta that Damien doesn’t want any part of it, and tried to kill himself. Sister Greta says that since it didn’t work, it may mean that they will all die. She pleads with Simone to help her drag he truth into the light.

We are then taken to the Dark Church, where Lyons and others are about to sacrifice a lamb. Lyons is praying to hold back the beast, he is clearly scared of Damien will want to kill him.

The Dark Church Damien

At the same time, Damien is searching his apartment. Ann Rutledge knocks on his door and demands to speak with him. She tells Damien about how much he scared John Lyons. Damien isn’t shocked that Lyons went to Rutledge, since he already knew they were working together. Ann explains to Damien that Lyons came to her for one of the daggers of Megiddo, which she has in her possession. She also explains how they work; that there are seven and each one needs to be placed into a different place on Damien’s body. If the ritual is done correctly, then his life and spirit with cease to exist. He asks what good one would do, and she says it would probably end his life. However, the power would just reach for another. Damien asks her why she would help him end his life, since she seems so dedicated to him. She tries to explain that she is not like Lyons, and truly has Damien’s best interests at heart. He calls her on her bluff, and tries to get her to stab him, but she can’t bring herself to do it.

Ann Rutledge Can’t Stab Damien

In what looks to be a gym bathroom, Cray and Charles Powell run into each other. Powell says that it is quite the coincidence that they should see each other, since the police questioned him earlier that day about Damien. They apparently hadn’t seen each other in years. They both agreed that they had told the police that they wanted nothing to do with Damien, and then Cray takes his leave to the shower. Powell takes half of a pair of scissors and follows Cray. Powell makes his way to where Cray is showering, and stabs him in the back with the makeshift weapon repeatedly. After Cray falls to the floor dead, Powell leans over and whispers in his ear, “You should have kept your bloody mouth shut.” He then cuts Cray’s tongue off, and we get our ending credits.

Powell Murders Cray

I don’t think my jaw came off the floor at all during this entire episode. We found out that Lyons has a creepy sacrifice church, Damien can’t be killed except through ritual, Simone is going to work with the Vatican, and then this whole crazy side story about Damien in college. Honestly, I really needed this week to be amazing, after last week’s dream sequence episode. Few things bother me more in TV than when you watch an entire episode, just to find out that the whole thing has been a dream. However, this week did not disappoint. This is now, most definitely, my favorite show on TV at the moment.

Damien airs on A&E on Monday nights at 10PM ET.
