If you’re unfamiliar with David Lynch‘s Twin Peaks, let me bring you up to speed. Twin Peaks was a smash hit in the early 90’s on ABC. Despite the fact that it was only on for two seasons, the show went down as one of the landmark shows of the decade, influencing artists in all sorts of genres. Even though it’s considered a cult classic by today’s standard, it’s difficult to overstate just how big of a splash this show made during it’s first season. Mixing aesthetics of of a crime novel with TV melodrama and a healthy helping the supernatural, Twin Peaks was a show that was begging for a new lease at life, especially when you consider it’s cliffhanger ending.

Starting with the death of homecoming queen Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee), Twin Peaks explores the life of the titular sleepy town as her murder unravels into a web of lies and deceit that kept viewers on their toes for two seasons. Nearly 25 years later, Showtime announced that Twin Peaks would return with David Lynch at the helm and would most of the original cast reprising their roles next to an entirely new generation of residents of the sleepy northwestern town. All in all, the cast list is now 217 members strong. You read that right: 217.

Some new additions include Amanda Seyfried, Naomi Watts, Ashley Judd, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Laura Dern, Ernie Hudson, Michael Cera, Trent Reznor, Jessica Szohr, Jane Levy, Richard Chamberlain, Robert Knepper, Jim Belushi, Tom Sizemore, Ethan Suplee, Balthazar Getty, Bailey Chase, David Koechner, and Larry Clarke.

Twin Peaks is slated to premiere on Showtime in 2017.
