Welcome to the Legion!

With the unprecedented success of Fox’s Deadpool movie, a sequel is famously already in the works. Indeed, the first movie’s post-credit scene even spelled out a bit of what audiences could expect from the follow-up, namely the debut of Cable, one Deadpool‘s most well-known comrades from the Marvel comics.

While actor Ryan Reynolds famously joked that Kira Knightly would be a good fit for the role (and with a franchise like Deadpool, you can’t exactly rule it out), others have been speculating on more conventional casting for the coveted role. Recently, Dolph Lundgren (Rocky IV) threw his hat into the ring, suggesting he would be interested in the part.

In an interview with The Nerdist, Lundgren was asked what superhero he would like to bring to life on the big screen, and this is what he had to say:

I heard in the one that just came out, the one with the funny mask, Deadpool, isn’t there a guy named Cable that’s coming? Well, I guess I could kick some butt doing that. He looks a little bit like Ivan Drago mixed with Gunnar Jensen.

While Lundgren is a bit old for the role, strictly speaking, the Deadpool franchise is not exactly bound by the normal rules of Hollywood casting. Despite being older than the prime version of the comic book counter-part, Lundgren certainly had the right look and general aura for a character like Cable. However, I am still not ready to rule out Kira Knightly just yet, either.
