While speaking to The Wrap about the new script he’s working on, Joss Whedon was asked if he would consider directing a female-driven Avengers franchise. Unsurprisingly, his answer was, “Yeah, of course. Although I tend more towards the Jessica Jones-ey kind of stories than the delightful Supergirl stories that my daughter wants.”
He went on to credit Kevin Feige for getting the Captain Marvel movie into development. “Kevin Feige fought a mighty fight to get her on the schedule. So it’s a start. You could say that should be a middle, but it’s a start.”
I don’t know about you, but the thought of Joss directing a female-driven anything, let alone the Avengers, is exciting. The characters I’d love to see him work with include She-Hulk, Dazzler, and Squirrel Girl. I think he would have a field day with them.
Joss’ previous Marvel works include Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. He parted ways with Marvel after Age of Ultron, after butting heads with Marvel executives over the creative direction of the film. Many thought he was completely done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but this sounds like as if he would be open to a return. Snatch him up while you can, Marvel!
