Welcome to the Legion!

mads in star wars

Mads Mikkelsen, after dropping the Rogue One story bomb last week that he’s playing Jyn Erso’s (Felicity Jones) father, spilled even more secrets to the Evening Standard yesterday! In the interview, he was asked if we can expect to see any Star Wars icons such as Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, and replied that we’ll see “Some of them – but I would reveal too much. There are iconic characters in our film and also characters you have never heard of. It’s a mix.”

If that weren’t enough, Mikkelsen went on to say we’re going to see the young Jyn Erso as well as follow her present storyline, and he plays her father both in the present and in flashbacks. I hope we’ll get to see more of Jyn’s childhood than we did of Rey’s brief flash! Here is the direct quote: “I spend a lot of time with [Jones] and she’s a wonderful actress. I play her dad at the time of Felicity and I play her dad when she’s younger, so we jump back and forth in time.”

And in case you didn’t know, Mads is now Sir Mads twice over – he was knighted last week by France, and also in 2010 by his native Denmark. This photo makes it Instagram official:

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is slated for a December 16, 2016 release. Mikkelsen will also appear in this fall’s Doctor Strange – a busy knight, now involved in two major movie franchises! Keep those spoilers coming, Mads!

I had the monumental pleasure of interviewing Mads in the summer of 2014, just as Hannibal was wowing critics and spawning an enthusiastic, dedicated fanbase. He had yet to be involved in either the Marvel or Star Wars universes, and I couldn’t be happier for him and these huge, career-changing roles. He was seriously the nicest guy – and rather delightful to look at! Cheers to those sweet nerd paychecks! I cant wait to see him in Rogue One, hurry up December 16!
