Gamers are used to getting bonuses if they pre-order their video games of choice. Not only is it the standard nowadays, it’s pretty much expected. But…with movies? It seems that Assassin’s Creed won’t be the only part of gamer culture that will bleed into the world of cinema. Brace yourselves, folks.
The Assassin’s Creed movie comes with pre-order packages that are available for purchase from the Kernel website. Yes, there are actually various tiers that range from $15 to $1,200. Each package contains unique items including t-shirts, watches, action figures, toy hidden blades, and statuettes. The $1,200 tier comes with a 1:1 scale replica of a Spanish crossbow replica from the movie. All tiers come with a digital copy of the film’s script, some behind-the-scenes extras, and, der…a movie ticket.
I…don’t know what to say other than I hope this doesn’t become a trend, especially with future video game movies. Gamers are already pretty jaded about all the price gauging from pre-order bonuses and DLC. Sure it starts out as non-essential stuff, but what will stop future productions from making you pay for exclusive media that expands on the theatrical release? Can you imagine if pre-purchasing a ticket is the only way to unlock a Marvel after-credits stinger???
Purchase your tickets responsibly, folks.
Assassin’s Creed will be released in movie theaters on December 21, 2016.
