Legendary and Universal Pictures have finally announced a release date for the sequel of 2013 Guillermo del Toro film Pacific Rim. Pacific Rim 2 will release in theatres February 23, 2018. Pacific Rim is the film that brought the traditionally Japanese giant mecha and kaiju genres of film to America. Due to its meager $101.8 million earnings domestically, a sequel was a little up in the air at first. However, when it earned an extra $309.2 million domestically, the project was revived.
Pacific Rim 2 will star John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) as the son of Idris Elba‘s Stacker Pentecost. Deadline has also reported that Scott Eastwood (Suicide Squad), son of Clint Eastwood, has been targeted for a key role alongside Boyega’s character. Directed by Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus), Pacific Rim 2 will be produced by del Toro along with Thomas Tull (Godzilla), Mary Parent (The Revenant), Jon Jashni (Krampus), and John Boyega under their company Upper Room Productions.
