The new adaptation of Stephen King’s novel just got a little bit… sexier?

After being stuck in production hell for some time, during which the film’s future seemed uncertain at best, It is finally back on its feet. The latest news is something that many people have been waiting for with bated breath: the casting of Pennywise, the evil entity that occasionally likes to take the form of a clown.

In the original miniseries adaptation of It, Pennywise was played by the legendary Tim Curry, and his nightmare-inducing performance holds up even today. At the time of release, Curry was 44 years old. This time, however, it seems that the studio wants to go with a much younger actor to play the famed demon.

Originally, Cary Fukunga, who co-wrote the script, was attached to direct. At the time, Will Poulter was rumored to be the actor that would be taking over the role of Pennywise. Poulter is decidedly younger than Curry at only 23 years old. When Fukunga exited over creative differences, though, so did the rumors of Poulter’s casting.

Now, with a new director in place, it seems that New Line has found its Pennywise. Bill Skarsgard, younger brother of Alexander Skarsgard (of True Blood fame), has been cast in the role. Again, the studio has picked someone much younger. With his performance on Hemlock Grove, it’s clear that Skarsgard is capable of holding his own; but whether or not he will be able to fill the shoes of such an iconic role remains to be seen.

It is expected to be released on October 27, 2017.
