Not only that, a studio exec has also said he expects Ghostbusters to become “an important brand and franchise”. This is great news after so many people tried to bring down the new movie’s success for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

Though it came in second place to The Secret Life of Pets this weekend, Ghostbusters still had quite an impressive opening at $46 million. The film is also expected to surpass the original Ghostbusters film as highest grossing horror-comedy. This would be great simply because of how angry it would make everyone that tried to bring the film down.

In regards to the franchise, Rory Bruer, president of worldwide distribution at Sony, had this to say:

The ‘Ghostbusters’ world is alive and well. I expect ‘Ghostbusters’ to become an important brand and franchise. While nothing has been officially announced yet, there’s no doubt in my mind it will happen.
