Kiersey Clemons, the breakout star of Dope, has just been cast in Warner Brothers upcoming film adaptation of The Flash. Clemons will star as Iris West, who fans will recognize as Barry Allen’s love interest. This is another step in the right direction as far as diversity and representation in film goes. The announcement comes just one day after SDCC, where DC revealed quite a bit of new footage from its upcoming films.

Some may also recognize Clemons from her role in Neighbors 2, where she starred alongside Chloe Moretz and Zac Efron. The Flash has experienced some troubles in terms of production, but with this casting news, it’s clear that the film is still well underway. The Flash is expected to be released sometime in 2018. Before that, you can catch Clemons in the remake of Flatliners, for which the release date has not been announced.

As someone who is a vocal advocate for diversity and representation in film, it’s so nice to see that Warner Bros, like Marvel, is heading down the right path. Let’s just hope they keep it up.
