After a couple days of rumors as to whether or not Legendary Pokemon had actually been found and caught, Niantic has confirmed the rumors and, unfortunately for the rest of us law-abiding folk, made some changes. In an official statement made on gamer website IGNNiantic stating what mistakes had occurred in there being any Legendary Pokemon being released. They also made sure to inform us that the Legendaries had been removed from the game completely:

“We recently noticed that a few Legendary Pokemon got into a few accounts when they shouldn’t have, To preserve the game’s integrity and as a measure of fairness, we have rectified the situation and revoked the legendary Pokemon from the Trainers’ accounts.”

A couple of days ago, I had gone over the rumors in question surrounding the accounts that had acquired Legendary Pokemon, which you can read here. The rumors surrounded a player in Ohio who had been claiming they were given an Articuno, the ice bird Legendary Pokemon, as an apology from Niantic for a bug that they had found in the game. Considering how many bugs there are in Pokemon Go, this reasoning seems very unlikely. If we all went to Niantic for the bugs in the game, the Legendary Pokemon would not be so legendary after all.

As of now, Niantic had not released the Legendary Pokemon to be captured by players. There are more rumors suggesting that hackers went around the game’s various codes in order to bequeath themselves these rare Pokemon. It wouldn’t surprise me if those particular rumors are true considering all the glitches the game keeps having, especially with the recent update.

Does this mean we’ll never see Legendary Pokemon again? I think it’s too soon to tell. The game is barely a month old and still has a lot of kinks to iron out. What do you think of this mess that Niantic has made for itself? What did you think about the rumors in the first place? Tweet me your thoughts at @birdiesrunamok.
