Tom Taylor, the actor who’ll be playing Jake Chambers in the upcoming The Dark Tower film, released an image today on his Twitter account. that gives a rather big wink to a pivotal point in Stephen King’s book series. In the series Jake Chambers is a young boy who aids Roland Deschain, The Gunslinger, on his journey to find the infamous Dark Tower. The key component that truly separates Chambers from Roland, his youth aside, is the fact that his existence is primarily rooted in Earth. The image released today by Taylor, however, is when Jake Chambers realizes that there is more than one dimension.
In the new image, as seen above, we see the doorway that separates Earth from Mid-World, which is where the majority of the action takes place in order to locate The Dark Tower. The phrase shown in the picture is a line that Jake Chambers proclaims to Roland when he realizes that Mid-World is just one out of many dimensions. Jake Chambers is seen in the image in a house that’s slowly falling apart, looking into a bright light which can only be the portal that separates one world from the next. Although, it’s been mentioned before, this house is another indication that The Dark Tower is not going to be a direct adaptation. For those who’ve read the series, this house is actually a demon that comes to life to protect the portal to Mid-World. If I remember correctly, it shows up in the third or fourth book of the series.
The Dark Tower film synopsis gives insight for non-book readers as to the general premise of the series:
The Dark Tower tells the story of the fallen land of Mid-World through the eyes of Roland Deschain, a sort of frontiersman knight whose primary weapon is not a sword but a pair of revolvers. He’s on a quest to save his decaying world by reaching the tower that stands at the nexus point in time and space.
