Looks like we may be getting more Squirrel Girl content soon!

In an exclusive from TVLine, we’ve learned that Marvel and ABC Studios are shopping a New Warriors series around to various cable and streaming outlets. If picked up, the series would put an immense spotlight on the little-known, yet immensely popular heroine Squirrel Girl.

Squirrel Girl has been in the news a lot more recently due to interest expressed by actress Anna Kendrick and by Stranger Things actress Shannon Purser in wanting to portray the character in a movie or TV series. Anna Kendrick told Net A Porter magazine recently about how she’s grown attached to the character, stating:

“My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should. I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!”

As much as I’d love a live-action version of Squirrel Girl, I think the world needs to learn more about the character in both the comic universe and animated Marvel universe first before we start throwing little-known characters in the Marvel live-action franchise. There are already too many characters as it is.

If the New Warriors series gets picked up, Avengers comparisons will be made since the series would feature a team of superheroes fighting to save the world together. The only difference would be that they are teenagers instead of adults. The clashing personalities would still be there, however. Since the show is still being shopped around, however, there is no news yet as to when the series will premiere. Until then, we will just have to wait for more affirmative news and get excited about the possibility of more Squirrel Girl.

What do you think about this project? Do you want more Squirrel Girl? Have you ever heard of Squirrel Girl prior to this? Let us know in the comments and get a gander of Squirrel Girl’s recent appearance in Ultimate Spider-Man.
