Star Wars

We’ve got two Star Wars rumors this week! Well, not sure if we want to call them “rumors.”

— We actually have one rumor debunking and one fan theory! But they are both pretty fun so let’s get right down to it.

As always, please STOP READING NOW if you would like to avoid any potential Star Wars rumors and/or spoilers!!!!

……

Okay, here we go…

1.) Han Solo with NOT appear in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

A popular fan theory (or hope) was that Han Solo would be making an appearance in Rogue One. (Especially after Alden Ehrenreich was cast as Han in the Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Anthology Film!) It seemed like a probable theory and a great way to introduce young Han to fans before he took off on his own film.

However, director Gareth Edwards has officially stated that Han will not be in the film.

“I’m not sure if I’m allowed to do this, but I think I should,” Edwards told EXTRA at Star Wars Celebration Europe. “I can put to bed, Han Solo’s not in the movie.”

* Sigh * I guess we’ll just have to wait until 2018 to bee Ehrenreich as Han.

2.) Rey, from the new Star Wars trilogy, is Emperor Palpatine’s granddaughter.

CinemaBlend has reported a fun fan theory that Rey is Palpatine’s granddaughter:

Vincent Vendetta posted on his YouTube page that he feels there are many similarities between Rey and Palpatine.

In additional to drawing a parallel between Rey & Kylo Ren and Palpatine & Mace Windu, he also theorizes that the voice in Rey’s head (in The Force Awakens), that tells her to go after Kylo Ren, is Palpatine’s voice. But, in my opinion, the most compelling part of this theory is that, if Rey is Palpatine’s granddaughter, it would very much mirror Luke Skywalker’s relationship with Vader. – A granddaughter joining the Light Side instead of the Dark Side like her grandfather.

It’s certainly a fun theory. I’m honestly not sure how I feel about it. Since the new trilogy does tie into the old trilogy, this kind of mirrored, generational storytelling is absolutely probable in my opinion. But I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
