It’s been about six years since the last installment of The Chronicles of Narnia film series. After Walden Media’s contract expired in 2011, it was looking likely that we would not be getting anymore installments in the series. Considering that the overall gross for each new film installment only took in half as much as The Chronicles of Narnia in 2005, the C.S. Lewis property wasn’t exactly the box office success that companies wanted it to be. However, over the past couple of years, new sparks of hope have been lit whenever a new piece of information has come out surrounding the series. When we found out in 2013 that The C.S. Lewis Company was partnering up with the Mark Gordon Company to produce the next installment, there was hope. When the official website for The Chronicles of Narnia asked fans for new names to label the infamous Lady of the Green Kirtle in July 2014, fans started to flail.

Now, in an exclusive given to Deadline, we know that The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair is actually happening despite the mini teasers the producers have been giving us over the years. The script is already in the process of being written and, not only will the film be produced by The C.S. Lewis Company and the Mark Gordon Company, but it looks like TriStar Pictures and Entertainment One will be helping to produce it as well. Hannah Minghella, the head of TriStar, is beyond excited to be able to adapt one of her favorite series of books:

“Reading The Chronicles of Narnia was one of the formative experiences of my childhood, just as it has been for children around the world for generations. To have the opportunity to bring new life to the Narnia films with a new creative team is a career highlight. Our mission is to build TriStar Pictures as a home for filmmaker-driven literary and commercial movies, and this film represents a huge step forward for us. We’re thrilled to be working with Mark, Doug, Melvin, Vincent, and David as we adapt The Silver Chair.”

I will admit that I have not yet read The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair so, for once, I do not have an inkling of what the plot might be for this upcoming adaptation. I can say that I am immensely excited since what I’ve read so far in C.S. Lewis’ series has been immensely breathtaking. It has never failed at taking me to a different place every time I have read his books.

How do you feel about The Chronicles of Narnia film series continuing on? Did you like the previous films? Let us know in the comments below what you think about this new development.

  • I’m a little sad to hear Walden Media will no longer be involved with the future NARNIA films, because their first two films with Disney were great, especially the first one, and the third one with Fox was ok. I am glad however that TriStar, The C.S. Lewis Company, the Mark Gordon Company and Entertainment One are going to continue to get these books adapted into films. 🙂
