TVLine broke the news today that Season 5 of Arrow will be throwing in another anti-hero player to the ring for Arrow to deal with. Jessica Jones’ Wil Traval has been cast as the Human Target for the upcoming season. Considering that he has played morally skewed characters before, this role seems to be a relatively good fit for him.

The official character description does not seem too far off what the character was like in the DC comic universe. TVLine has it listed as such:

A professional bodyguard and master of disguise who assumes the identities of those targeted by assassins, the character (aka Christopher Chance) will appear in Episode 5 when he takes on a new client: Mayor Oliver Queen.

There have been attempts to bring the Human Target onto television before in standalone series, but none have been very successful whether due to marketing or the general obscurity of the character. Fox had a series with the character just in the early 2010s, which I had never knew had been greenlit into now, further supporting my theory on bad marketing. Perhaps with the character making an appearance in Arrow, this re-appearance in television will be more successful this time around.

What do you think of this casting? Did you know that there had been other series featuring the Human Target? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below or tweet me at @birdiesrunamok.

Arrow stars Stephen Amell, Emily Bett-Rickards, and David RamseyArrow will return to The CW on Wednesday, October 5 at 8 PM Eastern Standard Time.
