Well, it looks like some Game of Thrones fans will be sad. It has been confirmed through Entertainment Weekly that Angela Lansbury will not be joining the cast of Game of Thrones for the seventh season of the show. The actress’ team told EW that the rumors surrounding her being cast in a minor role were false.

How did such a rumor blow up? We here at Legion of Leia will admit that we became super excited over the notion that Angela Lansbury could have a role in the infamous TV series. When we heard the rumors, it was like a strange dream that had the potential to come true. That and Angela Lansbury is well known and well loved among many generations of people for her work in Disney’s Bedknobs and Broomsticks, the TV series Murder She Wrote, and her voiceover work in Disney’s Beauty & the Beast. Since she is a fan favorite and since Game of Thrones is considered one of the most viewed shows in the world, such a combination sounded too awesome not to get excited over.

Another thing that gave the rumor such clout was the fact that many famous British actors had been tapped to be on the show previously. Just last week Jim Broadbent was publicized as being cast for the next season of Game of Thrones. The timing of that announcement coupled with the rumors this past weekend that Lansbury would be joining Broadbent seemed credible given past casting news.

For now, we will have to accept that this rumor is what it is, in fact, a rumor. We will probably not get a chance to see Angela Lansbury gallavant across the countryside of Westeros. However, we can still dream!

What do you think about this news? Did you think that Angela Lansbury had been cast or did you think it was false? Let us know in the comments below.
