Today creators everywhere and Maker Studios Network are coming together to celebrate the launch of a global fan content contest as a way to promote the new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story movie coming out in December and the Rogue One product line being launched today. Starting today, all creators from different genres can post #GoRogue videos calling for Star Wars fans to create and share their own Rogue One stories as part of a fan contest celebrating the highly anticipated new movie coming out December 16, 2016.

As of today, fans who are eligible can enter the contest by uploading their short video stories or skits set in the Star Wars universe. There will be a panel of judges who will choose the winning video. Gareth Edwards, the director of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, will be one of those judges. The prize, if you win, will be an invite to an advance screening of Rogue One at Lucasfilm in San Francisco and get to see their story on the big screen.

So, what is the purpose for this contest? Jimmy Pitaro, the Chairman of Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media explains here:

“Fans play a special part in Star Wars storytelling, posting thousands of videos online every day. This contest is a tribute to all the creativity and passion that fuels Star Wars fandom across generations,” said Jimmy Pitaro, Chairman, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media.

Teen and adult fans can find out more and enter the Go Rogue contest at StarWars.com/GoRogue. In the U.S. and parts of Canada, kids ages 8-12 can participate at Disney.com/MyRogueStory, where they also will find a video tutorial and tips to create their own stories.

More than a dozen Maker Studios creators will upload their #GoRogue videos, bringing to life the various Rogue One products that will be launched in stores today. Christ Pirillo, a creator from the Maker Studios network, will be doing an imaginative unboxing video of the products and is super excited to be a part of the #GoRogue experience:

“As a Star Wars super fan, it’s a huge honor to be part of an initiative that celebrates fandom in a truly creative and unique way,” said Chris Pirillo, a creator from the Maker Studios network. “I’m thrilled to participate in this amazing program, to ‘go rogue’ and make my own place in the galaxy with other super fans.”

If you need help with inspiration, fans can view the #GoRogue series of fan-made animated videos on the Star Wars Youtube channel here, which was created in order to reveal the new line of Rogue One products throughout the past month to ramp up attention. The new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story product line is available beginning today at retailers globally, including mass retailers, Disney Store locations and here on Disney’s online store.
