For anyone who loved Baz Luhrmanns Moulin Rouge!, and then dreamed of seeing a live production on stage, rejoice! Your prayers are being answered. Entertainment group Global Creatures confirmed that they will bring the beloved movie to the stage.

The book will be written by Tony Award-winner John Logan (Red), and will be directed by Alex Timbers (Rocky, Here Lies Love).

The show is currently in development and a venue and dates are to be announced when production is nearer to completion.

Upon announcement, Luhrmann said, “I’m tremendously happy to celebrate that Moulin Rouge! will be under [Alex Timbers‘] direction and that the book will be the creation of the gifted Tony Award-winning playwright John Logan whose writing I also admire deeply.”

The 2001 film stars Ewan McGregor as a young and penniless writer who gets flung into the height of France’s Bohemian revolution, and has a passionate affair with Moulin Rouge’s shining star, Satine (Nicole Kidman). Moulin Rouge is a celebration of love and creative inspiration takes place in the infamous Parisian nightclub at the turn century.

The film was nominated for eight Oscars at the 74th Academy Awards, winning two.
