Welcome to the Legion!

There are plenty of bad video game movies to choose from, with maybe one or two worthy of watching more than once. Hollywood has jaded us when it comes to this sub-genre, yet there’s always a sliver of hope that one day, one movie adaptation of our favorite video game will absolutely not suck — or at the very least, leave us underwhelmed. So far, it looks like Assassin’s Creed, starring Michael Fassbender, will be one of the elite few that will actually get things right.

Fox released a new trailer this week, and damn it, it looks promising as hell. In the trailer, we get more of an idea how this movie will be framed. Like with the first game, the movie will split its time in the past and present, following the stories of both Callum Lynch (Fassbender) and his ancestor Aguilar.

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

The film also stars Marion Cotillard as Dr. Sophia Rikkin, Jeremy Irons as Alan Rikkin, Michael K. Williams as Moussa, and Brendan Gleeson as Joseph.

Assassin’s Creed will take a leap of faith into theaters nationwide on December 21, 2016. Are you excited for this movie?
